12-string

The 12 string guitar is similar to a 6 string guitar, except with 6 pairs of tuned strings that provide a full, warm, and rich sounding tone. The strings of the lower four pairs are tuned in octaves whereas those of the upper two pairs are tuned in unison.These guitars are a little harder to play than a 6 string, particularly due to the string tension and added number of strings. 12 string guitars are known for their richer and more resonating tone.

The SG Story When the SG or "Solid Guitar" was introduced in 1961 as a replacement for the Les Paul, it was called the "fretless wonder" for its low frets and fast action. The twin horn cutaway design was like nothing on the market and its light but balanced weight made it the perfect guitar for stage and studio work. The Les Paul Custom SG featured 3 humbucker pickups, and since then, the SG has became the go-to guitar for artists like The Who's Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi, Paul Weller, AC/DC's Angus Young, Jimmy Page and Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band. Our Grand Concert 12-string guitars have been a revelation to players who've otherwise avoided 12-strings due to their traditionally bulkier size. In addition to the compact cutaway body, the 12-fret neck and 24-7/8-inch scale length translate into a physically inviting playing experience with a supremely comfortable handfeel. Sonically, the smaller body produces a more controlled 12-string voice that sits beautifully in a mix for recording applications. With the 362ce, a hardwood mahogany top (paired with blackwood back and sides) lends a bit of natural compression to the response, helping to create a balanced output across the tonal spectrum while still capturing the 12-string's beautiful octave shimmer. One of two Grand Concert 12-strings offered within our 300 Series, the cutaway 352ce features sapele back and sides paired with a Sitka spruce top. The lap-friendly body is a welcome antidote to the bigger body styles traditionally used for 12-strings; the result is more physically accessible option, especially with the 12-fret neck and slightly condensed 24-7/8-inch scale length. The smaller body makes it easy to set the strings in motion, and sonically, the controlled acoustic voice won't overpower a mix, making it a wonderful choice for adding 12-string texture to a recording or accompanying other instruments live. Compared to the mahogany-top 362ce, this spruce-top edition will tend to produce a slightly brighter sound, with appealing dynamic range and crisp articulation.
