This is not your average overdrive pedal. It's a breath of fresh air in a market full of clones and clones of clones. The Lowtide overdrive from Seafoam Pedals is a unique transistor-based overdrive (not opamp-based like TS, KL, and BB pedals) and a perfect fit for those searching for a refreshingly different sound. The difference in sound is heard as transparent but fuller by increasing frequency range (extending lows and highs), all while keeping your original tone intact. The Lowtide's distinct breakup is paired with a unique gain "focus" control for customizable tone shaping. At 12:00, you'll hear the even and open gain from the transistors, turning the knob left or right introduces clipping with two different circuit paths and types of diodes; left is the clipping style of a certain legendary horse-man pedal, right is the classic green box clipping style. The Lowtide overdrive was designed by a guitar player searching for a perfect low to medium gain option. Now, after years of refining and tweaking, it's sure to blow you away with how transparent and full your guitar can sound - all while having the perfect amount of overdrive! Controls: Volume - adjusts the overall output level, unity is around 11:00 with up to 10 db of boost. Bass - adjusts the lower frequency range (below 500 Hz), turn left to remove low-end and turn right for more low-end. Treble - adjusts the higher frequency range (above 1K Hz), turn left to remove high-end and turn right for more high-end. (Fixed mid-range, dial bass and treble back for a mid boost or max bass and treble for mid scoop) Drive - low to medium gain (edge of breakup to crunch) from 9:00 to 2:00, distortion to low gain fuzz after 2:00. This control is a transistor bias, a slight crackle as the gain increases is normal and also essential for it to sound great on low and high gain settings. Focus - 12:00 is even and open, left is horse-man and right is green box clipping styles. There are 2 completely different circuit paths and diode types on either side of this control, you will hear the different levels of "softening" as you turn away from extremes towards the middle. This sounds like a "midrange gain control" - each side really colors the midrange in a special way as it's adding gain. The left side sounds like it focuses the gain to the low-mids and the right side sounds like the high-mids get gained up to slight compression. Analog Man, in collaboration with Jim Weider, have come out with the pedal we have been looking for for many years - the King Of Tone (KoT). There are many overdrive pedals on the market, but none of them have been quite right, preserving the tone of the guitar and adding the right amount of overdrive without compromise. There are some good clean boosts available, but they just don't have enough drive to really give your amp the distortion you often want. There are some newer OD pedals that have a great frequency response, but to me they sound too DRY, a bit sterile and cardboardy. There are also some nice sounding pedals available but their sound is too "saturated", losing the touch and feel of your guitar. That is where the King Of Tone pedal comes in - it has enough warm overdrive but still preserves the tones of your quality guitars and amps. If you are looking for a big change in your sound, or a lot of distortion, this is probably not the pedal for you.

The El Rey Dorado is your go-to box for that Plexi tone. Yes, there is a wide range of 1960s Plexi Amp Tone in terms of power, which tubes are installed, which speakers and/or cabinet is used, but the El Rey Dorado hits the core tone bullseye! One of the many reference points for the tone was my own JTM 45/100® full stack. (It’s a dead-on reissue Marshall® did with crazy cool custom-made–vintage-recreation speakers and dual transformers to transfer the load of the 4 EL-84s!) The El Rey covers a lot of classic British amp tones by featuring two gain modes with the Power Toggle. With the Power Toggle switch you have control over the compression and harmonics. Low Power mode is louder, has more girth, and has fewer harmonics for a more old-school tone. The High Power mode has more compression, more harmonics, and a tighter, more defined tone. Old-school crunch in Low Power mode, super lead tones in the High Power mode.

In the late 1970's the overdrive pedal was arguably perfected when Japanese engineers designed the sound that we now know as the heart and soul of so many of our favorite artists, recordings and sounds. Players ranging from The Edge, Trey Anastasio, Buddy Guy, Kirk Hammett, John Mayer, SRV, Carlos Santana and thousands more from every possible genre have utilized and depended on this classic iconic green box. If a single effect pedal was chosen to board a Voyager 3 mission and be solely responsible for showing the universe the sound of overdrive, it would undoubtably be Tube Screamer. It is probably the most produced and sold pedal in the history of guitar pedals! The Bonsai is our tribute to one of the greatest pedals ever created. Following in the steps of our Muffuletta (released 2015), the Bonsai utilizes a simple rotary knob to switch through nine classic, vintage, rare, or hard to find variations of the Screamer. Creating the Bonsai became an archeological dig of sorts that sent us deep into the history of this circuit by examining dozens of versions, variations and replications. At the end of it all, Josh chose nine of his personal and favorite units and we painstakingly replicated every nuance and aspect of each pedal. One of the most challenging parts of this project was accounting for component drift as many of these pedals were decades old and the internal components had strayed from their original values. Each pedal was individually replicated using our Audio Precision analyzer and various other methods that allowed us to perfectly replicate every aspect of the sound and feel of the unit. It's important to know that the Bonsai is not a "box of mods," it is exact replications of these nine units all housed in one box! The Bonsai is exact replication, not emulation. When you choose a mode on the Bonsai rotary, you are actually activating components specific to each mode and playing the unit that Josh chose along with all the quirks, drift, vintage mojo, and individuality that a vintage pedal has.
